Junior Super Series 12/15/01

The Boldo Perspective

On December 15 Boldo's Armory had a Junior Super Series at Boldo's Armory. 33 players showed up to try their deck against Rochesters best young players. Ultimately the tournament was won by Kent Sutherland who defeated Chauncy Krotter in the finals. Like al tournaments this one had its share of little stories, laughs, and sadness but what interests me most are the decks used. It was a very green tournament with 20 decks using Green, 15 using Blue, 15 using Red, 14 using Black, and 10 using White. Only 5 decks were mono-color and none of these did very well. Over all most of the decks can be divided into two basic types control and call of the herd. There were a whopping 64 counterspells in the tournament or 16 of the 33 players had them in their deck. While there were only 35 Call of the herds it was the defining card in 6 other decks while 3 decks used both. Two other decks used other green cards like elephant ambush rather than call of the herd which the players probably did not have. The finals were fairly representative of the tournament as the three most popular decks in the tournament had six representatives in the finals. Now for some examples of the decks:
