Random Thoughts on EVERY FREAKIN' CARD in Destiny, Plus a Scrub's Eye View on Strategy

by Trash Talkin' Tom

Part 1 - White

Academy Rector               3W               Rare
It's a Creature... and a Cleric!               1/2
When Academy Rector is put into a graveyard from play, you may remove it from the game. If you do, search your library for an enchantment and put it into play.

Does this kill everything? Is it an Angel? No. Therefore, according to my rules, this card blows. The only cool use for this card that I can think of is in a W/B Yawgmoth's Bargain deck.

Archery Training               W               Uncommon
Enchant Creature
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may put an arrow counter on Archery Training. Enchanted creature gains: "T: this creature deals X damage to target attacking or blocking creature, where X is the number of arrow counter on the Archery Training enchanting this creature."

Versus the Archery Training enchanting some creature somewhere in the middle of Finland. I won't play this card, simply because I'll keep forgetting to put the stupid arrow counters on it. I'll guess this gets more Limited play than Constructed.

Capeshan Knight               1W               Common
It's a Creature... and a Knight!               1/1
First Strike
1W: Capashen Knight gets +1/+0 until end of turn.

They take away White Knight and give us this? Sure, I'm playing White Weenie so I have two to four extra mana kickin' around. This guy's a good blocker, which means he blo...er, he's not efficient.

Capashen Standard               2W               Common
Enchant Creature
Enchanted creature gets +1/+1
2, Sacrifice Capashen Standard: Draw a card.

If this cost one, it would be a good card, but three? I don't see many of the cycling cards being played just for the sake of cycling (except in Limited) so I'm not sure about this new crop.

Capashen Templar               2W               Common
It's a Creature...and a Knight!               2/2
W: Capashen Templar gets +0/+1 until end of turn.

AARGH! I can't help it! CAPESHEN'S SUCK! (mild psychotic episode ensues) Excuse me, ahem, where was I? Oh yes. Another knight that's not very ..efficient.

False Prophet               2WW               Rare
It's a Creature...and a Cleric! (is this annoying yet?)               2/2
When False Prophet is put into the graveyard from play, remove all creatures from the game.

Are you beginning to see the wisdom of my madness? Four mana, all creatures go BOOM! Interesting mechanic, this going-into-graveyard effects. No, this does not work with Living Death.

Fend Off               1W               Common
Instant
Cycling 2
Target creature deals no combat damage this turn.

A white cycling Fog for one creature. How exciting.

Field Surgeon               1W               Common
It's a Creature...and a Cleric!               1/1
Tap an untapped creature you control: Prevent next 1 damage to
target creature this turn.

Another healer! Now I can tap my Radiant, Archangel to protect my Angelic Curator! Or the other way around. Or whatever.

Flicker               1W               Rare
Sorcery
Remove target non-token permanent from the game, then return it to
play under its owner's control.

If this card was an instant, it'd be broken. As it is, it's pretty interesting. I bet someone finds a way to break it.

Jasmine Seer               3W               Uncommon
It's a Creature...Omigod! It's not a Cleric!               1/1
2W, T: Reveal any number of white cards in your hand. You gain 2 life for each card revealed this way.

Gerrard's Wisdom got stupid. Apparently these things (I mean all the Seers) were all the rage at the pre-release. I think this is a little mana intensive for Constructed play, but I could be wrong.

Mask of Law and Grace               W               Common
Enchant Creature
Enchanted creature gains protection from black and protection from red.

Ooooh. Slap this on a Mother of Runes and Sligh and weenie Black could be in for a long day. Well, they could Disk...oh, that's right. Disk didn't make it into Sixth. Too bad, so sad.

Master Healer               4W               Rare
It's another freakin' Cleric               1/4
T: Prevent the next 4 damage to target creature or player this turn.

Orim must have gotten lonely. Master Healer does not count as a Legend, so Orim's slumming it.

Opalescence               2WW               Rare
Enchantment
Each other global enchantment is a creature with power and toughness each equal to its converted mana cost. It's still an enchantment

This could be a cool card, I guess, but if you need your enchantments to attack and block why don't you just play creatures?

Reliquary Monk               2W               Common
OK, repeat after me, "It's another freakin' Cleric!"               2/2
When Reliquary Monk is put into a graveyard from play, destroy target artifact or enchantment.

I'm guessing that by the time you get this out, I can kill you, or lock you down, in less then ten turns.

Replenish               3W               Rare
Sorcery
Return all enchantment cards from your graveyard to play. (Local enchantments with no permanent to enchant remain in your graveyard.)

Could be fun. I have nothing else to say.

Sanctimony               1W               Uncommon
Enchantment
Whenever one of your opponents taps a mountain for mana, you may gain 1 life.

I love the wording on Destiny cards. So polite. "Excuse me sir, I tap these two mountains for mana. Would you care to gain some life?" "Why, thank you sir. I think I will. Mighty considerate of you." "Think nothing of it. I Shock you."

Scent of Jasmine               W               Common
Instant
Reveal any number of white cards in your hand. You gain 2 life for each card revealed this way.

This is more like it. This might see Constructed play.

Scour               2WW               Uncommon
Instant
Remove target enchantment from the game. Search its controllers graveyard, hand, and library for all copies of that card and remove them from the game. That player then shuffles his or her library.

Lobotomy for enchantments. Not quite what I mean when I say I want to destroy everything with four mana, but I can see this isn't a totally worthless card.

Serra Advocate                3W               Uncommon
Creature - Angel               2/2
Flying T: Target attacking or blocking creature gets +2/+2 until

It's an Angel, so: Costs four mana - check It's overcosted for it's power/toughness - check It flies - check It has at least one more meaningless and/or worthless ability - check Ship it!

Solidarity               3W               Common
Instant
Creatures you control get +0/+5 until end of turn.

If I need my creatures to have +0/+5, I could be in deep doo-doo. Limited only.

Tethered Griffin               W               Rare
Creature - Griffin               2/3
Flying
When you control no enchantments, sacrifice Tethered Griffin.

Yee Gods, an undercosted flyer in white?? What has this world come to? This won't see any play, nooo.

Tormented Angel               3W               Common
Creature-Angel               1/5
Flying

Four mana for a flying blocker? Excuse me?

Voice of Duty                3W               Uncommon
Creature - Angel               2/2
Flying, protection from green

Whatever. If the Voices of Law and Grace don't see much play, what chance does Duty and Reason have?

Voice of Reason               3W               Uncommon
Creature - Angel               2/2
Flying, protection from blue.

Ditto. Although a Radiant deck is beginning to form ...

Wall of Glare               1W               Common
Walls are Creatures?               0/5
(Walls can't attack. They forgot to join the Union.) Wall of Glare may block any number of creatures each combat.

I'm not saying this is broken, but expect this to be one of the most used cards in the set. Can you say Healing Salve...for a billion? With Solidarity, it's like an air bag.

Overall, White looks pretty boring to me. It has a few cards that will become staples, but the rest are either chaff or Limited only.

Of course you have to treat this as GOSPEL, because I know EVERYTHING. DUH. Blue's next, so watch out.

Disagree?

Tell it to someone who cares.
